A brand and a licensed activity are different things

A cannabis brand name identifies a business or product collection. A state license identifies the entity authorized for specified commercial cannabis activities. Cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, testing and retail are distinct activities in California’s licensing framework. A brand name alone does not establish which of those activities an entity is licensed to perform.

This distinction is useful when reading a website footer or product label: the brand, website operator and named license holder may not be the same entity. A disclosure should identify each role clearly, rather than attach one company’s license to another company’s name.

Type 11 and Type 13 distribution licenses

The California Department of Cannabis Control describes Type 11 as a distributor license. Its authorized activities include moving cannabis goods between certain licensed premises, moving finished goods to retail premises, providing storage to other licensees and arranging testing.

Type 13 is a transport-only distributor license with a narrower scope. DCC describes it as authorizing movement between cultivation, manufacturing or distribution premises. It should not be treated as interchangeable with Type 11. The applicable license type and regulations determine the scope; the general word “distributor” does not convey every permission.

DCC also explains that Type 11 distributors perform a quality assurance review before goods go to a retailer and arrange required laboratory testing. A description of that regulatory role is not a laboratory result for any particular Bubbas product or batch.

How Bubbas identifies its businesses

The business information supplied by the owner identifies Bubbas Brothers LLC as the operator of the Bubbas Cannabis website. The owner identifies OTC NC LLC as the distributor and supplies California license number C11-0002042-LIC, with license type Distributor. These are separate attributions; the distributor’s license is not presented as a license held by Bubbas Brothers LLC.

This disclosure records the owner-provided relationship. It is not a live statement of license status, an assertion of statewide service coverage or a description of services offered through this website. Current regulatory status must be established from the state’s current licensing records.

Retail is a separate licensed role: DCC states that a retail license is required to sell cannabis goods to the public. This guide explains the distinctions between business roles; it does not provide purchasing, delivery or wholesale arrangements.
